Procurement and supply chain salaries in Norway 2026: what the numbers say

What does a procurement director, category manager or logistics manager earn in Norway in 2026? FINN medians and quartiles, and what the spread means.

Insights

A procurement director in Norway earns a median of NOK 1,380,000 in 2026. A buyer earns NOK 676,105. In between sit heads of procurement, category managers and logistics managers, and the spread within each role is wider than most people expect. Here are the figures, and what they mean if you are the one hiring.

The figures

The table shows annual salary by role from FINN’s 2026 salary statistics. A quarter of people in the role earn less than the lower quartile, and a quarter earn more than the upper quartile. The median is the midpoint.

The spread matters more than the job level

Compare head of procurement with category manager. The medians are close, NOK 963,000 and NOK 940,000. A category manager in the upper quartile earns NOK 1,050,000, which is more than the median head of procurement.

The same pattern shows up further down. The lower quartile for heads of procurement is NOK 830,000, exactly the median for logistics managers.

So the title tells you less about pay than you might assume. Responsibility, the business and the market for the specific skill set carry more weight. For procurement directors the spread is widest in absolute terms: from NOK 1,184,625 at the lower quartile to NOK 1,670,000 at the upper.

What this means when you hire

Pay the role, not the CV. It is tempting to set the offer based on what the candidate earns today. But current salary reflects what the last employer thought, not what your job is worth.

Start with the role instead. What must it deliver, which decisions does it own, and how scarce is the expertise it needs? A category manager who will own a large, complex category belongs in the upper quartile. One who will look after an established portfolio can sit closer to the median.

This cuts both ways. You avoid overpaying for a title. And you avoid losing the right candidate because your offer was anchored to a salary that was too low at their previous employer.

Supply chain is underrepresented in the statistics

Statistics Norway (SSB) counts 7,857 employment relationships in the purchaser occupational group, up 46% since 2015. It also counts 8,919 managers in logistics and transport.

Many roles in the function are missing from those figures, though. Category managers, contract managers and planners fall under other occupational codes and are not counted separately. Supply chain roles are the worst covered. Demand planners, supply planners and S&OP leads barely exist in public salary data.

That means you often have less to benchmark against than you think when setting pay for a supply chain role. It is easy to miss in either direction.

What is missing

FINN’s figures cover five roles. The function has many more, and there is no Norwegian overview of interim day rates in procurement and supply chain.

By Name will publish its own salary and rate survey for procurement and supply chain later, covering more roles and including interim rates.

Questions and answers

What is the median salary for a procurement director in Norway in 2026?

NOK 1,380,000 a year, according to FINN's 2026 salary statistics. The lower quartile is NOK 1,184,625 and the upper quartile NOK 1,670,000.

What does a category manager earn in Norway?

The median is NOK 940,000 a year according to FINN's 2026 salary statistics. The middle half of category managers earn between NOK 805,500 and NOK 1,050,000.

Why is there so little salary data for supply chain roles?

Many supply chain roles, planners among them, sit in occupational codes that do not separate them out. Public statistics therefore do not count them on their own.
